College and Job Preparation - Is It Right For Me?
At The College and Job Preparation Classroom: A Good Learning Environment
College and Job Preparation is funded by the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities (MTCU).
It also receives significant support from Northern College.
According to MTCU guidelines, a learner must be:
- Without the literacy skills needed to find and keep a job or to meet everyday needs;
- At least 19 years old;
- Out of school
- Able to progress.
In addition, in order to succeed in Northern College’s academic upgrading program, College and Job
Preparation, students must be able to work independently in a large classroom setting. This is because
there is only one teacher at any given time and up to 22-25 students in the classroom. Each student needs
one-on-one coaching and feedback to support the learning activities they complete on their own. Therefore,
each student must be able to organize their time and assignments to make workable levels of progress towards
long-term goal(s).
If this describes you, College and Job Preparation may be right for you.
