College and Job Preparation - Why Should I?

The only cost to students is a $20 fee, paid to the Student Administrative Council.
- Applying is easy!
- Call 567-9291 ext. 606. If you have to leave a message, don’t hesitate—your call will be returned promptly.
- When you speak to the Program Coordinator, you’ll book a meeting to complete an assessment to determine the level of your skills in reading, writing and math. This becomes your starting point when you begin your learning program.
- A few days later, you’ll meet a second time to review the assessment results and, if everything is a go, fill out the forms to begin on the next Monday.

AU will benefit you if:
- You have been out of school for some time
- A lack of education is holding you back
- You do not have senior math or science credits needed for the program you want
- You did not finish high school.
Academic upgrading (AU) programs produce very successful students—in Kirkland Lake, at other Northern
College campuses and across the province. Generally, more AU students stay with their choice of program,
graduate, and get better marks than those who do not take academic upgrading. AU differs from secondary
school credits. We provide a customized bridge that takes students from where they are, as determined by
the entry assessment, to where they want to be, as determined by their goal, usually entry to a
post-secondary program.
